Frequently Asked Questions

Find out below some of the most common questions about therapy with Dr. Lindsey!

What should I expect? What are sessions like?

Understand that all people are not created equal and often do not have the same preference for what they find helpful and/or are looking for in sessions. That said, I truly strive to create a welcoming environment for clients to be able to express themselves and ask for what they need. Some people prefer a more structured approach and request lots of information, resources, or skills  to help them to problem solve around issues or challenges that they may be experiencing in their life.  I'm  definitely a resource nerd and would love to share the tips, tools, and/or informational resources I have collected over the years if that's what you're looking for! Others may prefer to have a space where they can talk through, vent, or verbally process about what is going on in their lives and through doing so gain insight and a better understanding about themselves and/or their situation without feeling judged or forced into homework or other assignments for therapy.  I am here to hold space for you to explore your thoughts, feelings or challenges and accompany you on your journey to discovering yourself and ways of healing! And yet there are others that  prefer a mixture of both! Whichever style you prefer, I prioritize being able to collaborate and check in with you on what you feel you need and what would be most helpful in our time together,  in order to help you to learn about yourself and help you to best meet your goals in therapy.

Do you accept insurance?

Holm Psychological Services is in network with Aetna, BCBS, Cigna, First Health, HealthPartners, Medica, Optum, UHC, UBH, UMR, Medical Assistance (MA of MN), Medicare, and UCare.  See our Billing & Insurance page for more info.

What is the cost for sessions?

The fee for a 45 minute session is $185 and the fee for a 60-minute session is $215. Please note that if you are using insurance, fees for sessions will depend on your specific plan, though usually may be less than the above mentioned fees. Please contact your insurance carrier for more specific details regarding your plan's coverage or costs for sessions. See our Billing &Insurance page for more info.

What is the cancellation policy?

If you need to cancel or reschedule your session, please do so at least 24 hours in advance, otherwise there may be a cancellation fee charged for your appointment.  To cancel/reschedule, you may message me via the secure client portal, call, or email.

How does Telehealth/Online therapy work?

For telehealth/online sessions, I use a secure, encrypted, and HIPAA compliant video platform that you can access via the client portal (https://holmpsych.clientsecure.me/) from any device (phone, tablet, computer) from most internet browsers (Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Microsoft Edge); no need to install software or extensions. For clients that prefer to use a mobile device for sessions, there is also a SimplePractice Client Portal mobile app that you can download in the iOS or Android app stores.

Can I do online therapy if I am not in Minnesota?

Unfortunately, I am only licensed to provide therapy services if you are physically located in the state of Minnesota? As such, if you are outside of the state (whether living or traveling) we will not be able to meet online during that time that you are physically located out of Minnesota.

How do you communicate with your clients? What is the best way to get in touch with you?

If you are a current client, the best way to get in touch with me is via the secure messaging feature in the client portal (https://holmpsych.clientsecure.me/). If you are a new or potential client, you may email me at lindsey@holmpsych.com or you may also contact me via phone, though please note that phone is generally not the quickest way to reach me, as I am typically in sessions throughout the day.
